Turkish Airlines set to start Dar flights on June 10
News & Highlights
By Felister Peter

The Turkish Airline is expected to start its direct flights to Dar es salaam in June 10th this year, boosting the number of that country's tourists to 25,000 per year.
The Airline will be landing in Dar es salaam four times a week, according to the Turkish Ambassador to Tanzania, Sander Gurbuz said in a recent interview with The Guardian.
The Ambassador said that five percent of the Turkish tourists are especially interested to visit Tanzania's national parks and Zanzibar Islands.
''There are many people keen to visit Tanzania, but the major impedient was lack of reliable transport. Tanzania is well known in Turkey'', said Gurbuz.
He said the flights are likely to strengthen business ties between the two countries. He said lack of proper transport resulted in failure of the two countries to increase trade.
He said that Turkey has made a progress in industrial development whereby 85 percent of their exports were industrial goods. He said 10 years ago, Turkey was exporting only agricultural materials.
Gurbuz said that his country ranked number 16 among the world's largest economies and was sixth largest economy in Europe.
He said that in 2008, his country come up with the 'Opening towards Africa' policy and organized the Turkey-Africa summit which was held in Istanbul, and attended by Africa's to leaders.
Recently, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Bernard Membe said the Turkish airline has shown interest to establish schedule flights to Tanzania as a step to foster stronger bilateral trade ties between Turkey and Tanzania.
